Ringette Canada elects new president, announces host of 2013 Canadian ringette championships

Ottawa, Ontario - June 23, 2010 - After a tremendously successful AGM and national conference held in Cambridge, Ontario, Ringette Canada is pleased to announce that the membership has elected Jane Casson from Jordan, Ontario as its new president and that Fredericton, New Brunswick will host the 2013 Canadian ringette championships.

Jane Casson takes over the role of president from Jim Dawson (St. Albert, AB) after he completed two consecutive terms as president with the organization.  Jane has an extensive background in ringette having been involved in the sport since she started coaching her daughter in 1993.  Most recently she served as the competitions coordinator with Ringette Canada and she has also served as the president of the Ontario Ringette Association from 2001 to 2006.

"I am extremely pleased to have been chosen to lead Ringette Canada and am looking forward to working with the staff and continuing the work started by our change in governance and strategic plan," said Jane Casson; "I am proud to be involved with this sport and some areas where I am particularly interested in focusing on are facilitating more effective communication with the provincial offices and expanding our current Long Term Athlete Development (LTAD) initiatives."

Fredericton, New Brunswick and Gatineau, Quebec both presented bids to host the 2013 Canadian ringette championships at the Ringette Canada AGM and national conference, with Fredericton coming away as the winning venue.  The event will be held in the spring of 2013.  Cambridge, Ontario will host the 2011 event and Burnaby, British Columbia will host the 2012 event.

"My daughter says ringette puts hurray in her heart" said Sheila Ebbett, co-vice president, admin of the 2013 organizing committee.  "We are thrilled that Fredericton Youth Ringette and Ringette New Brunswick have been chosen to host the 2013 Canadian ringette championships, and we hope that our plans to host a year-long celebration of ringette's 50 years in existence will create that same kind of pride and excitement within the ringette community."
